Campaigns We Love: The Kircher Family

The Kircher family recently went through a rough time. In April 2014, their two-year-old son, Sean, accidentally ingested contaminated water from a lake. He became sick and quickly passed the sickness on to the entire family. But it took months to figure out what was wrong. Finally, doctors diagnosed the family with Giardia, a common waterborne illness.

“We were very sick for a very long time.” Melissa Kircher shares, “I watched my children, who had access to medical care begin to starve, begin to die. It was the most helpless feeling. And even a year later we are still dealing with the after-effects in our bodies.“

During that year of doctor visits and medication, the Kircher family saw the grave power of dirty water firsthand. It really shook them to think that 663 million people around the world are forced to drink dirty water every day.

“Millions of parents must watch their children go through the same thing…and they have little hope of recovery. These deaths can’t happen anymore.“

So they decided to help! In celebration of their 10th wedding anniversary (and their renewed health), the Kircher family is raising money for clean water. And we could not be more grateful.

Thank you, Kircher Family, for sharing your story and helping charity: water bring greater access to clean water.
