Jim Hocking grew up in Central African Republic — he now runs Integrated Community Development International (ICDI), our local partnering organization in C.A.R. He talks about his work with the Bayaka and the reason he started ICDI.

september campaign: up close with the Bayaka.

The Bayaka know the forest. But the forest is being taken from them. Now, they’re living on the outskirts of villages, denied access to clean drinking water.

charity: water was born in September. So each year for our birthday, we ask September babies and other supporters to take on something big.

This year’s September Campaign will bring clean and safe drinking water to the Bayaka people in Central African Republic – one of the poorest and most remote countries in the world.

Here’s our September story:

Our goal is to raise $1.7 million with the help of individual fundraisers. 100% of the money raised will directly fund sustainable water projects. And we’ll prove every project completed using GPS and photos.

In five days, we’re launching this year’s September Campaign.

As you probably know, charity: water was born in September. Each year for our birthday, we team up with September babies and other supporters to take on something really big.

This year’s September Campaign will bring clean and safe drinking water to the Bayaka people in Central African Republic — one of the poorest and most remote countries in the world. Our goal is to raise $1.7 million with the help of individual fundraisers. 100% of the money raised will directly fund sustainable water projects.

A quick teaser of what’s to come…

We’ll release the full story next Monday, Aug. 16, when we launch the campaign. Throughout the next six weeks, we’ll also bring you videos of everything from Bayaka hunting practices to our local partner’s story of growing up in C.A.R.

Keep up with us here on the blog and “like” us on Facebook to get even more videos (every day!) of behind-the-scenes footage in C.A.R.

Our local partners in Central African Republic, ICDI, sent us a box of hunting equipment today in the mail…

A crossbow, darts (poison? we haven’t checked…) and a hatchet. They’re prepping us for our trip there later this month. We’ll be filming and collecting stories for this year’s September campaign.

Stay tuned. Jim Hocking and the rest of the ICDI team no doubt have some adventures in store for us. And we’ll make sure to share them with you.
