From the office: delivering happiness!

The Delivering Happiness team made a quick stop into our office on their long haul across the country promoting Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh’s book, Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion and Purpose.

You’ve probably heard about Zappos’ unique office culture. From holding weekly parades in their offices to encouraging employees to decorate their departments like log cabins, they have a good time at work. But all the fun is based on their unique focus on their employees’ happiness. Zappos stands by 10 core values to keep their staff culture fun and rewarding (one being “create fun and a little weirdness”).

We love how Zappos takes the time and effort to appreciate the people behind their success. And with a group in our office called the Happiness Team (they even have a Happiness Fairy!), how could we not take a moment to spread happiness to our supporters, too? Take a look:

Hi! I wonder if you would consider taking a look at some water issues in the United States. Right now, due to shale gas drilling, a number of communities across the U.S. are without clean water. Their previously clean well water has become contaminated with gas drilling-related chemicals such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene. The gas companies are saying it's not their fault, and won't provide them with clean water. The Dept. of Environmental Protection is working closely with the gas companies, and is not supporting the affected residents. Do a search on Dimmock, PA to get an idea of what's going on. I personally know of a case of a community of 12 homes where none of them have safe, clean water. If they can afford to buy bottled water to drink, they're doing it. If not, they're drinking contaminated water. They are bathing in contaminated water and getting sick from contact with the chemicals and from breathing the fumes that come out of their shower heads. Can your organization help people affected by shale gas drilling in the Barnett Shale, the Marcellus Shale and other shale basins across the U.S.? There are 2 films you should review: “Split Estate” and “Gasland”. These will give you an idea of what's going on. The media, largely, has been silent on this. We are trying to get help for these people. Thank you.

    Can anyone define the
word Happiness? What is Happiness we do not know because every single person
has its own meaning of happiness. Finding the ways to be happy in life is
only a way that can make everyone happy in this world.
