september campaign: making water projects last.

How do you make sure a well in one of the most remote countries in the world lasts for years? You involve the community in construction, you employ maintenance teams — and you instill a sense of ownership and responsibility with those that use it.

Watch how our local partners in Central African Republic are doing this with every charity: water project funded by this year’s September Campaign:

September Campaign is over — but our work in C.A.R. is far from finished. What happens next? Learn more here >

So often we make the mistake of taking away the ownership and responsibility of the work from the national in whatever country we are working in. This takes away their ability to have pride and a sense of accomplishment. It brings a senses of shame and defeat in that they could not do it themselves and had no ownership in the project. Lets give it back to them and show them all the ways they can advance their community! These people are survivors…they are smart…and they want to have a part in changing their destiny. Are we willing to provide that chance even if it is not part of our agenda? Help us bring pride and self respect back into the lives of these Central Africans and Bayaka people .
