from the field: dancing with women of Kigutu, Burundi.

We were told we were “up country.” It certainly felt like it — the two-hour trip by car from Bujumbura seemed to take us more vertical than horizontal. We reached the Village Health Works clinic just in time for a women’s group meeting and some celebratory dancing.

Village Health Works (VHW) is an organization that promotes health initiatives by empowering women in their communities. Although charity: water has no formal partnership with VHW yet, we were so inspired by how active these women were in their villages.

We toured the clinic and got a sense of their programs, which included everything from agriculture to education to malnutrition.

We spent the next couple of days scouting for potential water partners in Burundi. We hope to fund clean water projects here this year.
