| Dick Hillenbrand GOAL: $10,000 to build a well in a village. ![]() |
|
In Dick's words.
WHY WATER? Right now, 1.1 billion people on the planet don't have access to safe, clean drinking water. 1.1 billion…that's one in six of us! Shocking, huh? And, did you know that 80% of all disease in Africa is due to a lack of clean, safe drinking water and basic sanitation. It’s true. But, even more shocking, 42,000 people will die this week because of unsafe water. 90% of these deaths will be children under 5 years old. WHY CHARITY:WATER? In a few short weeks, I am traveling to Ethiopia with an amazing organization called Charity:Water. Founded by my good friend, Scott Harrison, Charity:Water is a non-profit organization that provides clean, safe drinking water to developing nations. How does Charity:Water do this? First, Charity:Water raises money. Then, 100% of monies raised goes directly to digging sustainable, clean water wells for areas of greatest need – like much of Ethiopia. RESULTS. $4,000 will fund 1 well that provides fresh water to over 500 people for 20 years. Think about that. $4,000. 1 well. 500 people. 20 years. Truly impressive. MY CHALLENGE. I am traveling to Ethiopia to visit the site of a well that I am currently building. But, more importantly, I am traveling around Ethiopia to visit the sites of futures wells that I would like to build…and I would like to build them with you. If I can raise $4,000 from my friends and family, I will match your offer and build another well. Altogether, that’s 3 wells for over 1,500 people! But, in all honesty, I hope that we can build 5 wells…7 wells…10 wells…this is a case where more is absolutely merrier! |
