Farmerama!

We’ve seen game-lovers do amazing things to bring clean water to people in need, and the Farmerama community is no exception.

The Farmerama team first joined us for World Water Day in 2014, aiming to find a creative way to raise awareness of the water crisis within their game.

Bigpoint, the creators of Farmerama, decided to make a virtual Jerry Can to bring clean water where it was needed most –- both inside and outside of the game. That week, their community raised funds to bring clean water to over 1500 people in Ethiopia and Kenya!

If you don’t know… for 748 million people on the planet, the Jerry Can is a way of life. Women and children in developing countries spend hours every day carrying Jerry Cans to collect dirty water that often makes them sick.

And they didn’t stop there.

In the days after the earthquake in Nepal, the Bigpoint team did something incredible and took action again! Not only did they bring back the Jerry Can, but also pledged to cover their own costs so 100% of every purchase could go directly to water projects.

In two weeks, 35,646 players joined in support and raised $82,811 to bring clean water to eleven disaster-affected communities.

100%, a Jerry Can, and plenty of generosity… just the way we like it. On behalf of everyone at charity: water, thank you, Farmerama, for raising awareness and helping us improve thousands of lives around the world.
