about charity: water and the september campaign.
about charity: water.
charity: water is a non-profit bringing safe, clean drinking water to people in developing nations. Right now, 1.1 Billion people on the planet don’t have access to safe water.
about the september campaign.
This past September our organization was turning two years old. We launched the September Campaign, asking everyone born in the month of September to give up birthday presents and ask for donations instead. 100% of the money raised was used to fund freshwater projects in Ethiopia. The campaign raised $1+ million, funding over 200 water prjects in communities in need. This provided 500,000+ people with safe, clean drinking water.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN.
It all started in 2007 when charity: water founder Scott Harrison was turning 32. He asked everyone he knew for $32 donations to build a well in Kenya, Africa in lieu of birthday gifts. He then asked everyone born in September to join him. In a remarkable seven weeks, $159,000 was raised and 100% of the money went to build water systems at 3 hospitals and 1 school. see photos/video from last year >

three ways you can help.

1. BORN IN SEPTEMBER?

We need your birthday. Help us build wells by asking your friends and family for dollars instead of gifts this year. You can create a personal birthday page here and get the word out to your relatives and friends! We'll keep a running total of your donations and 100% of the money will build wells in Ethiopia.

2. Give $33.

If you’re not born in September, you can still give $33 directly to charity: water for Scott’s birthday. We also want to encourage you to give to strangers. You can search the borninseptember.com site by age, or last name. All donations raised will go to help people in need.

3. share the story.

Help us spread the word to your network. Let your friends know about september by putting a badge or banner on your page. Grab some charity: water flyers, a DVD and hold a screening. You can do it in your local church or high school, restaurant or even in your living room.
