Senegal

We’re working in the Casamance region of Senegal, an area that has fallen behind the rest of the country in terms of water access due to decades of conflict. Though a ceasefire was declared in 2014, Senegal still falls near the bottom of the UN Human Development Index, with access to clean water standing at 75% and access to basic sanitation at 48%.

But the country is working to change that. Today, they're investing in partnerships with implementers like charity: water to co-fund large schemes under the motto One Roof, One Tap. In addition to providing a reliable source of clean water, these private, household connections give time back to the women and children traditionally responsible for collecting water.
