This past August, we joined seven other donors and three staff members from charity: water on a journey to Zimbabwe. Together, we visited communities along the spectrum of clean water access.

Some villages had no source of clean water. Families were drinking from dried-up riverbeds—sharing the same water holes as livestock. It was heartbreaking to see. Yet in other villages, where donors have helped fund deep wells that reach 50+ meters underground, the transformation was astonishing. Those communities overflowed with life—smiles, laughter, and songs of gratitude filled the air. It’s true: water is life.

We left Zimbabwe even more inspired and motivated to help. The difference between despair and hope in these communities comes down to something so basic—and so solvable.
