Every birthday, I have dinners, I have drinks, I get gifts. It's nice to celebrate. But so many people can only dream of having birthdays like mine.

So this year, I'm giving my birthday up.

I'm turning 25, and instead of asking for gifts, I'm asking for $25 or more from everyone I know. It's not for me though. This year I'm donating my birthday to build freshwater wells for communities that need it.

A billion people in the world today are living without clean water. 45,000 people will die from contaminated water this week alone. The lucky ones won't, but still walk hours each day to get dirty water to give to their families.

$5,000 is what it costs to drill a freshwater well, one that will provide clean and safe drinking water to an entire community for more than 20 years. My birthday wish this year is to raise $5,000 to fully fund one of these projects. If we are successful, I hope to visit this community in 12 months to see first hand the difference you have made and the lives you have changed.
