I am constantly harping on the importance of hydration. I tell my students and participants to bring a water bottle on every outing - even if we are only a few feet away from a water fountain at school. In spite of my best efforts, many of my students are unprepared, and regret not having water when they engage in outdoor activities. Naturally, I have very little sympathy - especially in light of the dire need of so many in the world, who don't have the option of "bringing a water bottle." We take clean water for granted, and this should not be.

More than a billion people worldwide don't have access to safe drinking water. Many have to walk hours each day to collect unclean water from unsafe pipes, dirty ponds or rivers. For many, there is water that could be made available - their communities simply don't have the money to create a situation that makes clean water accessible. Here's how we can help.

Just $5000 builds a well that will serve a community of 250 people. My goal is to raise $1000 towards a well in the next three months. For every GO-Adventures participant in 2011, I will donate $5 to this important cause. Will you join me?
