Using my ice bucket nomination to highlight the shortage of safe drinking water in other parts of the world

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has gone viral and everybody is getting involved. As of the 23rd August 2014 the ALS campaign had raised US$62.5 million. Its wonderful to see a whole community getting behind a great cause, but did you consider whether the water you were pouring over your head was safe to drink...? Probably not because we are fortunate enough to live in a part of the world where access to safe drinking water can be taken for granted.

Sadly this is not the case in many other parts of the world. For example in the Sahel region of West Africa (where the average temperature in over 40ºC), access to safe drinking water requires a walk of several miles a day to a 100-year-old hole in the ground, where they collect water one bucket at a time. The water is often contaminated, dirt-coloured and can make them ill. They have to make this journey 4-5 times a day.

I am using my ice bucket nomination to highlight this harsh reality. Please donate to my campaign and help make an impact. Charity:Water install solar powered pumps in these communities and pipe water to tap stands right next to their homes. Just $3,500 will provide a village of 100 people with safe drinking water for the rest of their life.

100% of everything raised will directly fund water projects. When the projects are finished charity: water will send proof in pictures and GPS coordinates, so we can see the actual people and communities our donation has impacted.
