Rep. Scott Plakon has offered to match any contribution from Democrats up to $290 tonight, July 30.

Pollster David Beattie took that as a challenge and also offered to match until midnight tonight.

The photo above is from my daughter Ainsley's 1st birthday party. She's now two, and my other daughter, Emery, is about to turn one. I love this picture because it reminds me how the simple things in life matter most.

But for some, the simple things aren't even simple. Almost a billion people in the world are living without clean water -- but how much are they really living? Millions contract deadly diseases from contaminated water. 30,000 people will die this week alone. The lucky ones won't, but still have to walk hours each day to get dirty water for their families.

I'm turning 29 on August 2 and I need your help. Either my friends and family step up to the plate and help me raise $2,900 for clean water, or I'm going to pick up the rest of the bill. That means if we only raise $1,000, I'm going to be dolling out $1,900 on my birthday.

I've kicked this off with a $290 donation.

100% of all donations go directly toward water projects. And about 18 months after this campaign ends, charity: water will show us where and how every dollar we raised ended up helping in the field. We'll see GPS coordinates, photos and more details about the communities we've impacted.
