Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink -- even the water in our toilets is clean!

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

In many developing countries, the situation is a lot less fortunate. Women and children walk for hours, up and down mountains, just to collect water that can make them really sick.

In Singapore, we have experienced some exceptional hot and dry weather over the past 2 months, very similar to what we experienced over the last 2 years. March has be also just been recorded as the driest and 2nd hottest month in our local record books. Regardless of whether this is due to an El Nino influence, it has definitely seem to become much more regular in the last decade. Climate change skeptics can say all they want but the truth is that our weather patterns have changed tremendously from a generation back. Naturally, water scarcity is becoming a real threat to any and everybody. Our primary source of water from Johor reservoir has dropped to almost 40% of it's capacity and this cannot be more worrying for a small country like us. We can only thankful that our leaders have thought well ahead and diversify our sources of clean water which meant that Singaporeans are much luckier compared to our peers to not have our daily lives affected, yet!

This was a wakeup call to many. Many of us in this part of the world don’t spend too much time thinking about water because it’s available everywhere we go. When we’re thirsty, we flip a handle or push a button. When we’re dirty, we twist a shower knob. When our cars are dirty, we hose down the dirt with zero hesitation. When we need to cook our rice, when we use the bathroom -- water is just an arm's length away and more often than not, we forget how precious clean water can be.

On 1 May 2016, we celebrate 4 years of awesome coffees at Nylon, partly thanks to an easy access to clean and safe water for our brewing, and we want to do our little part on this very special day. Last year, because of your kindness, we raised a total of SGDS$10,376.95 for charity: water but we hope to take it a step further this year. With your help, we hope we can raise even more to help more people have access to clean water! In return, we will be serving coffees FREE from 9am - 6pm on 1 May 2016. We humbly ask for your generous support to our cause -- any amount you give is gonna be a massive step towards providing clean water to someone who really needs it.
