After successfully completing my first charity:water campaign for my 33rd Birthday in 2009, another opportunity has just presented itself to me and I am going to grab it!
On February 24th 2010, I didn't give up my birthday, I didn't cycle the world and I didn't start running - I simply gave up smoking and have 'Stopped Cold Turkey'!
One big step for myself and after thinking about it - perhaps even bigger for other people and here is why:
According to 'MyQuitPlan' calculator, by not smoking for a week - I have saved $25.
We all know what $20 can do, it can provide fresh clean drinking water to a person for 20 years. Beyond that, the current situations in Haiti and Chile (where charity:water is strongly involved) due to earthquakes are calling for immediate help.
I will pledge this: Starting today, at the end of every month of this campaign, I will donate the money I saved by giving up smoking to my own campaign! This will equal $100 per month and I know this is not a fortune - but I can make a change in my life that will help to improve the life of others!
