Ok, stay with us: NFT stands for “non-fungible token.” Let’s break that down a bit.
“Fungible” refers to an asset that has a fixed value, like a dollar bill. All dollar bills are worth the same amount: one dollar. So, if an asset is non-fungible, it does not have a fixed value and is therefore unique, like a sandwich. You could buy a turkey club for $1 at a gas station or $8 at a fancy market. There isn’t a standard price by which all turkey clubs are sold, and each one is ever-so-slightly different.
Unlike all things fungible, “token” is a word you’ve probably used before. But in this context, a token isn’t something you put into a blinking slot at an arcade. It’s a unit of cryptocurrency value that exists on blockchain—which means it has inherent proof of ownership.
So! Putting it all together: An NFT is a piece of digital content that is built, traded, and tracked on blockchain. As a buyer, you have transparency into the value and purchase history of every piece. As a content creator, you are forever linked to (and get royalties from) the sale/re-sale of your work.
Confused? Our friends at New Story wrote a great article that unpacks NFTs even further. You can check it out here.
Cryptocurrency is a digital form of money designed to be used on the internet. Cryptocurrencies are powered by the blockchain: an advanced form of technology that is kind of like an ultra-transparent ledger. It allows every transaction to be seen and verified.
NFTs can only be purchased with cryptocurrency, usually on a special platform like OpenSea or Rarible.
Net of any transaction fees, we will use 100% of your remaining crypto donation to fund clean water projects. You can learn more about our 100% Model here.
Looking to make a donation from your collection? Creators can donate proceeds from their NFT sales using fiat or cryptocurrency. Learn more here.

Innovation has always been one of our core values. Whether we’re developing a first-of-its-kind remote water sensor or making a bold promise to use 100% of public donations to fund clean water, we believe we do our best work when we’re willing to try new things.
There are still 703 million people waiting for reliable access to clean water. To achieve our mission of ending the water crisis, we’ll need to embrace innovation at every stage of the journey. It’s why we’re using the world’s most innovative currencies to meet people’s most basic need—and why we’re so inspired by the creativity and commitment of the NFT community.
