The most populous country in Central America, Guatemala is home to 15 million people. This multi-cultural country is rich in its Mayan heritage and diversity, with over 24 linguistic groups. Most of the people live in rural areas, although more and more are migrating to the urban centers for work.
Mountainous and lush, this tropical country is also prone to earthquakes, hurricanes and volcanic eruptions. Over half its population lives in poverty and all of the country's major diseases are water-related.
