Sometimes we need to share difficult stories with each other. At charity: water, we‘re always trying to find innovative and compelling ways to tell them. That's why when our partners at Frosty Pop approached us about making a video game to help raise awareness about the water crisis, we were immediately excited about the opportunity.
We're on a mission to change that.
Inspired by hundreds of real stories from the communities we serve, This is a True Story follows the lead character, Bontu, on her journey to collect water, giving players insight into the hazards and complexities that the 703M people who lack access to clean water are confronted with every day.
These stories of resilience and hope inspired the game.
"During the summer months, sometimes we dig holes in the floor of a dry waterhole to find water. During droughts we do the same, but in the winter while it’s raining the streams are flowing."
"I just want to see my village changed. I want everyone to have fresh water, good food, and a good life, free from illness."
"In the afternoon it’s so hot no matter where you are. Whether you are inside or outside, you can feel the heat. Sometimes your body will be shaking as if there is fire all over you."
