Don't get me wrong -- I LOVE Christmas. It's a time for family, comfort, hugs, hot chocolate, pretty lights but most importantly - for love. And for me, it's a time to celebrate what's most important: the birth of Jesus Christ.
But there are a lot of things that we don't really get right about Christmas.
For one, we give each other a lot of STUFF. Being Christian, the purpose of this holiday is Jesus. And He made His purpose clear to us -- sacrifice. He died so that we could live. But let's face it, we actually sacrifice very little at Christmas. However, what's small to us can be huge to someone else who lacks basic needs. For example, almost a billion people in the world live without clean water. That's a pretty fundamental need. Water changes everything. You can help to not only change someone's life, but to change their way of life as well.
So during this season, I'm not asking you to give up Christmas. I'm simply asking you to donate a few dollars of that Christmas shopping money to help build clean water projects. 100% of all funds we raise go directly to the work on the ground. And when the projects are finished (in about 18 months), charity: water will show us the communities we've helped! This is a gift that will truly last not only for a few months after Christmas but for a lifetime.
Between now and the end of the year, I hope to raise $1,000 right here on this page.
Jesus said that "let anyone who is thirsty come to me..." Water is life. May we give the gift of life so that they may thirst no more.
