It's no secret that I am a clean water advocate. For almost 34 years, I've had access to some of the cleanest water in the world. I've been able to get it by walking mere steps to my tap - in my kitchen, my bathroom, on my fridge, even out of the garden hose.

Millions of people around the world are not that lucky. Some kids walk 6 miles to get one gallon of water (often contaminated) before school. This one gallon is meant to serve the water needs of their entire families - for cooking, cleaning, hygiene, and drinking - all day long.

If you can't donate to my clean water campaign, there are other ways to help:

1. STOP drinking bottled water. Not only is it a farce, using "it's convenient" is an excuse to provide yourself with a luxury that damages our environment by increasing pollution and demand on petroleum.

2. When washing your hands, wet them, then shut off the water. Soap up, then rinse. Don't let the faucet run while you are washing.

3. Start locally and participate in local water clean-up programs, such as those provided by American Rivers or the Audobon Society.

4. Teach kids the beauty of clean water.
