Why Brian Ferrell is fundraising for clean water

Hi, I'm Brian! I'm raising awareness for the global water crisis by carrying a full 5 gallon Jerry can of water during a 5K on March 24th in Oakland.

The Jerry can is a symbol of the water crisis. Millions of people around the world spend hours each day with one strapped securely on their backs, held tightly to their hips or balanced on top of their heads. Women and children usually make the trip to the nearest water source, often miles away, which is unprotected and likely to make them sick. Diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.

My goal is to raise $1,000 to give 50 people access to clean water. Please help me by donating on this page.

100% of the money raised goes directly to water projects. When the projects are finished, charity: water will show us the exact communities we've helped using photos and GPS coordinates.

If you'd like to cheer me on during the race, please do! I probably won't be going very fast, but there will be lots of food, drinks and music to keep you occupied. It starts 7:45am on March 24th on the corner of 19th and Harrison near downtown Oakland. More info about the 5K: http://www.oaklandmarathon.com/Race_Info/5k.htm
