The average American will spend $30 this year on the sending of Christmas cards. Math tells me that a family of four like ours will spend $120 if we're average. Sadly, in this case, we're above average.

My wife, equipped with the knowledge that we're on the road to probably dropping more than $200 this year, made a conscious decision to do something better with that money. And now we're asking you to join in.

Instead of buying a portrait session, ordering cards, and paying postage only to have them (hopefully) end up in the recycle bin come January, why don't you join us in the fight to help curb the epidemic of 1,400 kids dying every day due to unclean water sources?

In lieu of sending paper cards this year, go digital. Or even better, pick up the phone and call or Facetime all of those people you want to keep in touch with. If you live in the same town, drop the communication mediums and go sit on their couch for an hour.

You benefit. Your recipients benefit. People in need benefit. Heck, even trees benefit! The only people that don't? Big box stores who will more than likely survive your little boycott.
