I am incredibly lucky that I have been born in the UK and now live in Finland. I have never had to worry about where my water comes from. Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink -- even the water in our toilets is clean (Note: not a recommendation to drink from there).
But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.
Bringing clean water does so much good beyond the obvious thing of saving people's lives. It lowers the risk of rape, it increases sanitation for school children to help them stay in school, more time for people to develop their own lives and in the long haul it can slow down the crazy population growth (when families have clean water they are less likely to have very large families). That might be the best reason to support this cause. But it is up to you.
I started this fundraising campaign to help charity: water build these types of projects around the world, and I'm looking for anyone who can help me.
I have reached a stage in life where I have realized I don't NEED anything material to celebrate or to be happy. I wanted to DONATE my birthday (I am not getting any gifts, everyone is being directed to donate money here instead). $30 will give someone clean water for life. For LIFE! Think about that! For the cost of a nice t-shirt or DVD box set you can change someone's life forever. That is an insane amount of power and would be a wonderful gift!
Please donate to my campaign -- anything you can give is a huge help. If you don't feel like donating maybe some of you will be inspired to donate a birthday for a cause close to your heart.
If you don't want to donate you can still support this cause by visiting the charity water shop (all proceeds go to pay overheads keeping 100% of donations going to water projects).
100% of the money we raise will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.

The fundraising doesn't end until the end of the year (the end of this Charity Water funding period) - but as it stands - thanks to you - you've donated $757 - enough to change the lives of 25 people forever. That money, combined with all the other fundraising efforts and donations will be pulled together to affect real change in places that need it.
Thank you so much again. It's be the best birthday gift I can remember. TWENTY FIVE people, will have clean water for the rest of their lives, thanks to your kindness and generosity. That means less time walking to and from dirty wells, lower risk of rape, more time in school, and longer lives and better health for those people.
In the coming couple of years, we'll get more information about exactly where the money went and how it was used.
