1.1 billion people do not have access to clean water. WATER.
Water scarcity is recognized by the World Economic Forum as the largest global risk over the next decade due to waterborne diseases, lack of sanitation, pollution, and regional conflicts over scarce water resources.
I discovered this by reading "Thirst", in which Scott Harrison details his insane life that ultimately concludes with his mission to end the world's dirty water crisis seeking aid through his charity, "charity: water".
I don't read much, but I'm glad my mom had me read "Thirst" because it truly made me realize how great I have it; 1.1 billion people don't get what every human needs--water--while I'm sitting in my perfectly heated apartment, drinking a Keurig coffee, eating one of my mom's cookies, and wondering what I'm going to eat for breakfast tomorrow. Not to mention, I always have a water bottle.
Now I donate everyday to "charity: water " to hopefully allow at least one more person enjoy life without having to worry about getting its most basic necessity: water.
