On September 26th, I'm turning 30.

At first, this seemed surreal, even daunting.

But how can I sweat getting old when millions of people don't live to see their 5th birthday. And why? Because they didn't have access to clean, safe water. How crazy is that? We are so privileged to not have family, friends, and our children die from diseases because we have clean water, just steps away, whenever we want it.
So I'm not annoyed with turning 30 anymore. In fact, I'm celebrating my birthday like never before.
I knew I wanted to "give up" my birthday for awhile but I would always try to bargain with myself. I said I can post this on facebook and if people give great. But maybe my husband can still get me a little something, or my best friend, maybe my parents can do both, but I want to stretch myself. I want to know that if I am getting old at least it can really mean something. So if you were going to get me a little something, don't.
I'm asking instead for $30 or whatever you can give from everyone I know, maybe you would never even think of sending more than a happy birthday wish on Facebook, please consider donating too - and every penny of the money raised will go directly to fund freshwater wells in developing nations. Even better, every dollar is "proved" when the projects are complete, and photos and GPS coordinates are posted using Google Earth.

My goal is to raise $3030 by my birthday, September 26th. I know that seems like a lot but even if all 200 plus of my FB friends just gave 12 we could reach that goal. I am certain if I could reach that goal it would be my best birthday gift ever!
