My 43rd birthday is at the end of May. I don’t usually bring attention to my birthday, but this year I’ve decided to make an exception. I’m inviting my friends and family to donate to charity: water and give clean water to people who need it, instead of gifting me with flowers, wine, cards or gifts.
I am deeply grateful for the abundant clean water that pours from my tap. As many of you know, I am passionate about water issues and have dedicated my graduate research to understanding the scope of the global water crisis and proposing reforms for our international water laws.
Did you know that Women and children around the world walk hours every day to collect water for their families. Often the water they collect makes them sick. Every day, 5,000 kids die from water-related illnesses before they reach their fifth birthday.
My birthday wish this year is to to make a difference for a family who does not have access to clean water.
I can't think of a better birthday gift. Thank-you!
