Some children around the world do not have clean water taps in their house. Or even outside their house. Maybe not even in their whole village. Instead they have to walk 3 miles/5km (on average) to collect water from other places, like muddy or dried up streams. Then they have to carry the water all the way home. Now they can wash themselves, wash their food, cook and hydrate. Until the collected water runs out and they have to do that long water walk all over again.

I learnt about this while watching a TV advert. The people in the advert looked very sad and the advert told me sometimes people can become ill drinking the dirty water they can collect. They also can’t go to school because they have to walk so far to collect water instead.

So I decided to help! I have set myself the challenge to walk 3 miles/5km on 24th March (which is a long way for me because I’m 5 years old) and have invited my friends to join me! We hope you will sponsor us to complete the challenge and help us raise a big pot of money that Charity Water can use to build fresh water taps or wells in villages, so other 5 year olds around the world can just concentrate on being kids!
