Why Leon Tan is fundraising for clean water

Hello friends and family,
its Leon here!

Last year for my birthday some of you helped me raise money to provide clean water around the world. For my 3rd birthday, my goal was to raise ($300).

With your help, we raised....

($2,315.33!)

I received update from charity water (hope you did too) that the money went to (uganda)

Why Uganda?

Northern Uganda is rebounding after two decades of civil war. More than 1.6 million people were internally displaced (80% were women and children) and many remain far from home today.

(But)

Clean water projects can improve health, shorten the time spent walking for water, and even help define and rebuild communities returning to or looking for a home after years of displacement.

Thanks to you, through my birthday campaign, 77 people will get clean water!

So, I hope you feel really good about yourself and (all the great work) that is happening because of YOU .

In 2012, my mom dedicated her birthday to charity water and the funds went to Cambodia!

More than 14 million people live in Cambodia and 36% lack access to clean drinking water. Cambodia has plenty of available groundwater; the problem is that not much of it is safe enough to drink. In 2012, Cambodia had some of the highest infant and under-five mortality rates in Southeast Asia, at 33.9 and 39.7 per 1,000 live births.

Here, we invest in the BioSand Filter (BSF), which uses stone, sand and a biological layer to remove 99% of harmful bacteria in water poured through it. Families build their own BSF and keep it at their home for daily use. Each BioSand filter costs about $70 and can serve a family of six.

We helped 3 families, 20 people, from her birthday campaign alone.

This year I am excited because of two things:

We are going to Cambodia for my birthday! I am excited to visit a country where I know we have made an impact.

The second reason why I am excited is because I am turning 4 this month!

You bet that I am doing another birthday pledge with (charity water)

I challenge YOU to partner with me to make a difference for families around the world by providing clean water.

It takes 30 seconds to donate. (seriously, 30 seconds)

When those projects are complete, they'll collect GPS coordinates, photos, and other details about each community to show you the impact you’ve made.

Thanks for celebrating my birthday with me!

Fist bump - Leon Tan
