In September 2010 map magazine turned eleven years old. To celebrate our 11th birthday we have teamed up with charity: water to join in their birthday celebrations too! map is donating its birthday cheer and planned party cash to building a water well in Africa instead. The only problem is we need to raise $5000 to build the water well and our birthday budget wasn’t that huge … so we need your help. If you can spare a dime or too we would love you forever! We are proud to get behind such a great cause and we appreciate any donation, no matter how small. map magazine will be donating $5 on behalf of every advertiser in November and December to help us reach our goal of building a water well.

On any normal day the following event occurs ...

The sun beats down hard on the arid earth, as the hunched figure of an African woman trudges slowly down a dusty road, burdened by a heavy jerry can. The unforgiving sting of the sun is something that she knows well, for she makes this painful trip everyday - five hours each way to fetch the water that the lives of her children so precariously depend on. Chances are, that water is laden with bacteria that will give her children diarrohea and, unable to afford the necessary healthcare, she will watch in anguish as her children die a slow and agonising death

Together, we have an incredible opportunity to provide clean water for those in need. And the great thing about donating to charity: water is that 100% of donations go directly to the water projects, and you get to see exactly what projects your dollars fund.
