Dear friends,
On January 28 I turned 60. My big sister Akka turned 60 on June 20, 2016. She died of pancreatic cancer on April 24, 2017. As sixty was her last ever birthday I wanted to do something in her memory, so I have pledged my birthday to charity: water “sixty4akkalove”.
It is a wonderful organization; it appealed to me because:
1) 100% of the money raised is used to build clean water projects, (private donors cover the operating costs), and
2) when the projects are complete, charity: water sends photos and GPS coordinates so one can see the exact community that was helped.
Many people around the world don’t have the luxury of clean water. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. It doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.
I started this birthday fundraising campaign to help charity: water build these types of projects around the world. If this speaks to you perhaps you will consider donating any multiple of 6 to sixty4akkalove.
