My name is Olivia Goldman and thank you for coming to my Bat Mitzvah project page. I chose charity:water as my Mitzvah project because when I found out that 663 million people in this world don't have clean water and spend hours every day walking to get any water - even dirty water that makes them sick - I realized how much we take water for granted and how privileged we are to be able to have clean water. I think that every single one of those 663 million people deserves to have life’s basic needs and giving them easily accessible, clean water is a good start. When the kids have water, they can go to school and spend time with their family and friends just like I get to do every single day.

When I went to tour the charity:water office and learned more about what they do, I couldn’t believe it. They told me that 1,400 children die EVERY DAY from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation, but there are simple solutions like wells and other things that can help provide clean water. Also, I did the "water walk" where I walked around a room holding a 40-pound jug of water that kids my age and even younger have to walk with for miles and miles in 100 degree heat, and I only made it a couple steps and I was so tired!

That was when I decided that I don’t need Bat Mitzvah presents. I am very fortunate to have all of the things that I have and I don’t need anything else, but these kids really need water. So please donate to my Mitzvah project and help me help them - anything you can give is a huge help. My goal is to raise $10,000 dollars because that would fund at least one well for a community somewhere in the world where people really need it to live. And what’s really cool is that charity:water told me that 100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and that when they're complete, charity:water will send me photos and GPS coordinates that I can put up on this site so we can all see the exact community we helped.
