Why Denise Powell is fundraising for clean water

The 27th of this month is my birthday.

At first, this seemed surreal, even daunting.

But then I found out that millions of people don't live to see their fifth birthdays. And why? Because they don't have access to clean, safe water.

So I'm not scared of turning any age anymore. In fact, I'm celebrating my birthday like never before.

I'm asking for $10 to $34 from everyone I know -- and every penny of the money raised will go directly to fund clean water projects in developing nations. Even better, charity: water will show us exactly which projects we funded once they've been fully completed (which takes about 18 months). That means we'll be able to see the communities we've helped!

My goal is to raise $300 by my birthday, March 27th.

Please join me to make this birthday count.

while in the marines i was stationed in djibouti africa at one point. unlike other countries i had been to, the children that ran amok in the streets didn't beg for money, they begged for clean water. while i was out there the military drilled a few new water wells, repaired a few roads, built a few new schools and vaccinated a few villages and their flocks. but for me, to see kids the same age as my own at the time, running around and begging for clean water.... was haunting. keep fighting the good fight!
