Why Ravi Mehta is fundraising for clean water

So as you may be aware my birthday is soon approaching.

The last two years I did this as well (in 2014, we raised $346.00, and in 2015, $1,351 both for Breast Cancer). This year again, I wanted to dedicate the month of my birth to a charity/philanthropic cause.

Lately, every year I get older I appreciate more and more of the many things Im blessed with and this year many instances have shown me that we take many simple and trivial things for granted. I have come to close encounters to death including the Chelsea bombing and Hoboken Train crash when I was in that station just 15 minutes prior to the crash. That said, I've realized anything can happen at any moment but even more so I realized the little things I take for granted. The simple things that keep us surviving. Food, shelter, and most of all clean water. It amazed me to learn some of the statistics. We complain about our commutes to work when in some places in the world people have to walk up to 4 hours a day to get some clean water.

MY BIRTHDAY: Tavern on Third (Kips Bay) Wristbands for Open Bar for $40 or $10 Happy Hour from 8pm-11pm (portion of proceeds go to the charity) and then the DL (LES) afterwards. The best gift would be getting to see as many old and new friends as possible. My ask is that instead of a gift, or buying me an alcoholic drink at the bar, (I know, what am I thinking right, a year older but less the wiser?) let's do something different cause let’s be honest…everyone loves to party for a good cause). So instead of this just being Another Year, and Another Drink, lets make it Another glass of clean water for an underprivileged person elsewhere.

So whether you can make it to my birthday or not, whether you donate 1$ or $31 (the amount needed to provide ONE person with clean water), no amount is too small so help me in this cause. I originally set my goal at $675, but we shattered that, so now I've raised it to 1,012.50 (50% more than my original goal).

Please share this with whomever you think would be interested.

Text me at (516) 316-7045 for details/logistics on the birthday plans for the weekend. If any out of towners need a place to stay, let me know, we'll arrange something.

P.S. I was maybe kinda sorta joking, if you insist, I'll still accept a drink or two....or five

Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink -- even the water in our toilets is clean!

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

I started this fundraising campaign to help charity: water build these types of projects around the world, and I'm looking for anyone who can help me.

Please donate to my campaign -- anything you can give is a huge help.

100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.
