Why Ryan McRae is fundraising for clean water

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is about helping people, or making a difference—

This is your chance until March 31st.

I have created a book containing over 50 haikus and pictures highlighting Afghanistan. And I’m selling it for charity:water. And them alone.

EVERY—SINGLE—DOLLAR— goes towards charity:water, an organization that builds wells in sub-Saharan Africa.
Read below to find what your donation entails!

Just like a kickstarter, you can donate whatever you would like. If you donate more than $1, you’ll get some great add-ons.

$1—Droplet. You’re great! You get the ebook and my thanks. (Delivery: March 2013)

$5—Sprinkle. You helped out! You get the ebook, my thanks and I’ll mention you on my site on when the campaign is done. (Delivery: March 2013) (The mention will be after the campaign closes.)

$10—Cup. I really appreciate it! You get all of the above and I’ll add a link to whatever your site you want to highlight! (nothing naughty though.) (As soon as the campaign is over.)

$25— Bottle. Awesome! Just awesome! You get all of the above plus 1 postcard from Afghanistan. (I’ll send the postcards around March 1st and April 1st. Please be patient. Afghanistan mail isn't the fastest.)

$50— Bucket. I can’t tell you how many people will benefit from this donation. You get all of the above plus 2 postcards from Afghanistan. One of them is about whatever topic you want. (I’ll send the postcards around March 1st.) Only 2 postcards total. Not three. Sneaky pirate.

$100—Pool. Thank you for giving life to so many people! Bonuses as above and I’ll video myself reading one of the haikus I’ll send you. (This will probably be sent to you in May/June since I don’t have reliable internet.)

$250.—River. Seriously. You are wonderful and generous. As above, and I’ll send you a unique haiku for a year, one every month for 12 months! (From various locations.) (Starts in June 2013)

$500—Lake. You are crushing thirst. Crushing it. As above, and I’ll write you 10 haikus with 10 pictures that you send me. I’ll print them as PDFs and send them back to you. (Delivery in June 2013)

$1,000—Ocean. Do you realize how many people you’ve given water to? As above (except for the $500) and I’ll write you 20 haikus with 20 pictures you send me. (Delivery in June 2013)

$5,000—Hurricane. Hope you like hugging! The $500 bonus, plus $100 and above. I’ll also fly anywhere in the continental United States and do a haiku reading party with you and for you. (Housing and airfare not included.) I’ll sleep on your couch though. No cats. We’ll talk. (This can happen in August 2013 on.)

$10,000—Grand Tsunami.— You just blew our minds and our hearts away. You get the the $1,000, and the $250 and above bonus. I’ll travel anywhere in the world and spend two days training, coaching or just presenting on whatever topic we come up with. (US airfare/hotel included. If international, e-mail me to coordinate how we’d share that expense.)

I’d like to spread the word on this FAST. I’d love your help letting people know by putting stuff on Facebook, Twitter, or Pintrest which I just joined.)

The book will launch April 1st (pending I have internet connection at the time.)

FAQs about the process:

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yep. That’s why I’m going through charity:water.

When will I get my stuff?
If it’s postcards, pretty soon (March/April). Please email me your mailing address so I can send the card! The videos and the rest will take a bit after I get back to the States (May 2013). I know you’ll be patient! I’ll send a link to my Dropbox for the ebook in March or sooner. You can download it at will!

You aren’t offering anything “physical” like the book in hardcover? Why not?
Because I’m personally receiving zero money from this and I don’t want if 50 people want books that cost me $20 to print, I’m in trouble. IT COULD GO VIRAL PEOPLE! But if you want to print it for yourself, no problem. Feel free.

If we have a problem, who should we contact?
Me. RyanMcRae@mac.com. Please put “Haiku” in the title.

What is the recommended amount we pay you for the book?
Ideally? $25.00. That would be huge.

What’s your target you’d like to hit?
My big dream would be $2,750. The amount I raised in July. In my biggest dreams? $4,000.

When does the campaign end?
I won’t offer the bonuses after March 31st, 2013.

What happens then?
I will simply offer the book for a set amount and donate the proceeds then. No bonuses. Just the eBook.

And then?
I write haikus all night. All day. I’ll work on my next book while dreaming of people with clean water while whispering thank you thank you thank you.
