On January 14, I am turning 27 years old. I’ve never been big on celebrating my birthday, so this year I figured instead of being a grump about getting older, I’d like to do something productive for a cause that is constantly on my mind.

Almost ONE BILLION people are without clean water; every 19 seconds a child dies from water-related issues in sub-Saharan Africa. Lack of clean water affects everything from health, education, to poverty and development. Millions contract deadly diseases from contaminated water. Thirty-thousand people will die this week alone.

My birthday wish this year is not for gifts I don't need; it is to give clean and safe drinking water to some of the billion people living without it.

Please help me raise $5,000 to provide 250 people in developing countries with access to clean water. I have 91 days to make this deadline. Any donations, small or large, make a difference. One-hundred percent of donations go toward building freshwater projects for people in developing countries.

About 18 months after this campaign ends, charity:water will show us where and how every dollar we raised ended up helping in the field. We'll see GPS coordinates, photos and more details about the communities we've impacted.
