Hello people!
Thanks for visiting my page :)
This year on March 2nd I'm turning 19 and my birthday wish is to help build a freshwater well where needed.
What I feel I love most is to help others and I'd love to work in the humanitarian field. I recently discovered this very inspiring cause, charity: water, and it struck a chord in me. It takes hope, it takes faith, it takes ambition, but I'm doing it!
We've always used water without realizing how lucky we are to have it, but not every part of the World is that fortunate...
Lack of access to clean water is a larger problem in Africa than anywhere else.
So I really want to try and help for this cause this year. My goal started at $10,000, I brought it down to $5,000. Those amounts might seem very unrealistic, I know! It did to me too, but I thought -- if you don't try, how can you know?
All I ask is for you who are reading this now, family, friend, person, to donate $5 or $19 or $190 or whatever amount you can, and spread the word. And whatever you do, please think first.
What is it, $5, $10, $15? A sandwich, or a CD, or a book, or a movie ticket, or a pack of cigarettes, or so many more gizmos we don't actually NEED.
How many of these do you buy in a year? What is it, one fewer/one more?
If everybody would give only $5, it would take 1,000 people to achieve this goal.
And I know there are way more than 1,000 people out there who care about global issues and want/can help -- it's only a matter of generosity!
A billion people on the planet don't have access to safe drinking water. That's one in eight of us.
45,000 deaths occur every week from unsafe water and a lack of basic sanitation. 90% of them are children under 5 years old.
$250 means two families of six can get clean water.
$5,000 means clean water for a community of 250.
If you don't donate, please at least help by spreading the word! If I don't raise all that money, I know this will be a most rewarding experience because I'll have tried to do something :)
I believe that together we can try and raise awareness about this terrible problem and eventually make a change... Tall oaks from little acorns grow ;)
Helping me means helping hundreds of people lacking safe water!
Thank you so much :)
Sylvia
PS. 100% of the money raised will directly fund clean water projects in areas of greatest need. The donation is "proved" and tracked to the village it helped when the project is complete.
PPS. My campaign is now closed but you can always give to another water project! Thanks to those who helped!
Good luck!
