I have amazing friends and family; I don't need anything else for my birthday. Let's give folks water instead.
My 31st Birthday. Essentially meaningless to most. What it typically means is a handful of people stress over what to buy me and several other handfuls say Happy Birthday on my Facebook wall.
The last three years, we've leveraged my birthday as something useful instead of stressful or meaningless--raising over $1,300. If a birthday is to celebrate life, let's really celebrate life: let's bring water to people to need it.
I'm asking you to translate your potential gift or potential wall post into something more tangible and meaningful. Forget buying me a random lunch or a neat trinket. Instead, give $5 of water. Take that 10 seconds you were going to spend saying Happy Birthday on my wall and just give $1 of water.
