As a student of Lehigh University's Global Citizenship program, I was invited to attend the Millenium Campus Conference at Columbia University in the November of 2010. As students of global awareness groups, our mission at the conference was to support and work toward the United Nation Millennium Development Goals. The MGDs aim to end poverty and hunger, provide universal education, spread gender equality, improve child and maternal health, combat HIV/AIDS, promote environmental sustainability, and encourage global partnership, all by the year of 2015.

The MGDs might seems like a very ambitious promise that can never be fulfilled. However, the truth is that the MGDs are very possible given our world stop wasting our precious resources. For example, just the spending on military alone is able to to cover most of the goals listed above.

Since our government isn't really really cutting back on that, and the members of the UN isn't taking much actions, we, as a citizen of the world, must take action in order to make a difference in the world.

There are many ways to make a difference, micro-finance and donations are just a few. However, as we all know, there are many con-artists out there that make fortune off the aids generous people provided to those really in need. Therefore, every time before I make a donation, I will spend some time confirming if the "middleman" is reliable or not.

Charity: Water is one that I trust, since I actually met the founder during the Millenium Campus Conference. Scott came to the conference and share with us his personal story. I am sure all the students there were moved by his passion and the determination to help others.
