What would you do for clean water? For the 703 million people living without it, the answer is anything. And they do: they walk miles every day, in treacherous conditions and extreme heat, just to access water that makes them sick — or worse.
I'm running the NYC Marathon because clean water is a human right. During the hundreds of hours that Rooney and I spent in hospitals and clinics, we met dozens of people living without access to basic needs. I hugged mama's who lost their babies to preventable diseases, while I watched my own grow and thrive, because of access to resources -- like safe water. I believe in a better world for the women that I love, and communities like their's around the world.
Every $40 raised will provide a lifetime of clean water to one person. $10,000 builds an entire water project for an at risk community. Most importantly, 100% of every dollar you donate will go directly to providing the life-changing gift of clean water where it’s needed most. Because of generous donors, charity: water has all of their operating costs covered, which allows your donation to go directly to the field. They report back with details of where your money went, and how it’s helping.
Women and girls spend hundreds of hours a month walking countless miles for clean water. With your help, by running 26.2 and raising awareness, my hope is that we can change their reality and their future.
