As we come together to honor the life of our beloved Sadia Besher, we reflect on the incredible legacy she leaves behind. She was a devoted mother, a loving wife, a cherished grandmother, and a dear friend to so many. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering generosity touched everyone who had the honor of knowing her.

Throughout her life, Sadia Besher gave selflessly to her communities, both in Boston and in her homeland of Ethiopia. In her memory, the Goso Family is honoring her legacy by supporting Charity Water in Ethiopia, an organization that improves access to clean water and sanitation—a cause of great importance to her.

What would you do for clean water? In rural Ethiopia, where approximately 95 million people live, 58% of the population still lacks access to basic water services - for them the answer is anything. And they do: they walk miles every day, in treacherous conditions and extreme heat, just to access water that makes them sick — or worse. Ethiopia is a landlocked country in the Horn of Africa where nearly 27% of the population lives on less than $2.15 a day. Unprotected water sources are often open ponds and rivers polluted by human waste and microbial contamination. This is why this cause was so important to Sadia.

Most importantly, 100% of every dollar you donate will go directly to providing the life-changing gift of clean water where it’s needed most. Our family’s first goal is to raise $36,000 to build 3 spring protections where clean water can be accessed either at the site of a spring box or through a gravity-fed piped system. For every $12,000 we raise, we will be able to work with an Ethiopian community to build a water system as well as give them the proper tools and training to maintain these systems. In addition, the local community is encouraged to identify the water, sanitation and hygiene issues and participate in the planning and construction of the water project. This ensures that we are building something truly impactful for their community and sustainable for years to come.
