Yesterday was a really fun day. The Spurs won the NBA championship. and it was Father's Day. I watched the first half of the game at my parents house, then when I got home there was a special surprise - a little sparrow had made its way into our home and was flying around the house. For about two hours my wife and I tried to get the bird to fly out of the house. We finally trapped behind the refrigerator and waited for the professionals to come in the morning. So my birthday morning was filled with hugs and kisses from my kids and tweets from a bird in the house. At around 10am, animal control finally stopped by the house and got our winged friend. The kids were even able to pet the little thing. As I looked the bird in the eye all I could hear in my mind was Lauryn Hill in the background singing, "His eyes on the sparrow… and I know He watches me." A friend said sparrows are supposed to be good luck so I guess I'm set up for a good year.

31 years... It's been an amazing year. It started with the birth of Faith (my little girl) and it ended with the creation of a hedge fund (yeah I know, we can talk later if you're interested) and the watching of How to Train Your Dragon 2. And all the way through I know He watched over me. So for my birthday I want to let Him use me again to watch over somebody else. I'm not sure why so much suffering exists in the world or why so many kids are in so much pain - but I know I can help. And giving up my birthday is one of the many ways I can do that.
