Every day, 5,000 kids under the age of 5 die from water-related illnesses. There is something we can do.

My birthday is almost here. I'm not usually excited about getting older, but this year I'm really thankful to have lived another happy, healthy year. I always see my birthday as an opportunity for me to share my blessings and help other people in whatever way I can. So with my birthday coming up soon, I have decide to make another water campaign.

Around the world today, there are still millions of people who lack a good source of clean drinking water. Some of them travel far by foot just to fetch water that is not even safe for human consumption. Drinking filthy water carries a lot of health risks and I am almost inclined to believe that poverty is due, in part, to this unsafe practice. People getting sick and not being able to do their part in the community, sick parents not being able to provide for their kids, children miss school because of water related illnesses... the list goes on and on.

But we can do something. I understand that there are so many great causes out there to give to these days but I am certain that providing safe drinking water to those who need it, will also put to rest a whole lot of other poverty borne issues that exist in our society.

Water is a basic need; humans have the right to safe drinking water and I believe that it is the best gift I can think of to give, or to receive, for my birthday this year.
