Help me bring clean water directly to 75 people through my first charity: water campaign of 2019.
In the last week of January I’ll be cycling the 410 miles (660 kms) from Bogota to Cali in Colombia. During this ride I’ll be climbing more than 38,000 ft (11,700 meters) and tackling Alto de Letras, which at over 50 miles (80kms) long with a whopping 10,500ft (3,220 m) of elevation gain, is known as the longest road climb in the world.
To date, charity: water has brought clean water to more than 8 million people by directly funding nearly 30,000 water projects across 26 countries. Every dollar raised will go 100% to funding a clean water project (no administration fees, no corporate overheads, just 100% of funds going to provide clean water) and at the end, we'll receive both the GPS co-ordinates and photos of the exact project we help fund and the lives we've changed together.
I hope you take a few minutes to learn a little more about the global water crisis and consider a donation to my Colombia Campaign to help bring an end to something so basic and also solvable.
I was so excited to get the email this week to inform me that the funds everyone contributed to this campaign has been allocated to Mozambique! I hope you will all enjoy seeing where every dollar of your contributions get put to use and the lives it will change forever! Thanks again for supporting me and charity: water and if you want to continue your support, check out my latest adventure here! https://my.charitywater.org/mprzytula/california-600
Well that's a wrap! I'm writing this update from the small town of Buga, just outside Cali at the end of my week riding through this, what I can only describe as amazing, country. I made many new friends this week on the journey, each with their own reason for being here. From a recently retired Aussie Rules Footballer who's skyrocketing career was suddenly cut short due to injury, to one of our guides who, only 12 months ago, was laid up in bed for 7 months after being robed by bandits while camping on a bike packing trip. He was shot with a shotgun during the incident, had to run through the jungle for more than an hour to escape and had surgery to remove pellets from his lungs, and even his eye. He loves to ride his bike and thought he'd never climb Letras again... but this week, he did it once more.
For me, it was certainly the toughest week I've ever had. During every journey like this, I continue to learn more about myself and I'll go into the next epic adventure just that little more wise and prepared. Colombia gave us everything from sever heat (102F+), rain, fog, clouds, cold and of course if unrelenting hill climbs but most inspirationally, the beauty of if landscape and its people.
Most importantly out of this adventure, because of each of you, the lives of 91 more people in the world will be changed forever through access to clean water and for that, we should all be most proud. There is till 109 more people I want to get help for before 2019 is done, so stay tuned for the next epic (or maybe crazy?) campaign I'll be embarking on this year to make that happen. But as for now, as I sit here drinking Colombian espresso, being thankful that each of you took this journey with me and hope you'll consider doing so again on the next one!
Thank you.
Michael.
