In about a week, I'm going to run the first 3 miles of the Peachtree Road Race carrying a 5 gallon yellow empty water container. When I get to the 3rd mile marker I will fill up the container with 5 gallons of dirty water. From that point I will carry the full 5 gallon container the remaining 3.2 miles until I cross the finish line that makes its way into Piedmont Park.
That's 6.2 Miles of sweating, pushing, giving everything I've got.
Sounds rough, right? Well imagine doing all of that without clean water.
Every week, millions of women and their children walk more than 14 miles just to get water for their families. Most of this water is contaminated, but it's the only water they have. They take the chance of catching diseases like bilharzia and schistosomiasis (parasites) - with every sip. There's nothing they can do to change it.
So, what can I do?
My mission is to raise $5,000 for water. I want every step to matter. I'm asking for pledges per foot, per mile or flat out donations to help achieve my goal.
Because of charity: water's unique model, 100% of all donations go directly to water projects, and each donation is "proved" when projects are complete. I aim to raise $5,000 in the next 92 days (as much as possible by the 4th!).
I hope you'll join me in helping them now.
As the 4th of July quickly approaches, as we drive to the South Carolina or Alabama boarder to get the really good and somewhat illegal (in Georgia) Fireworks, as we load up on charcoal, hamburgers, hot dogs, and all the fixings that come with an Independence Day Cookout. There are about a Billion people around the world that do not have access to clean drinking water. Let’s give people thousands of miles away a reason to celebrate! Join me in making peoples dreams of access to clean drinking water for them and their family a REALITY!
EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS!
charity: water's proud to have you as a fundraiser, Chris -- thanks so much for all your hard work!
Proud to call you brother....let's keep it up til no one is thirsty.
