Why Cardboard Shell is fundraising for clean water

On the 4th of July, I'll be at Coney Island for the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest - The BIG Show!

It's not easy to get there. But even with training, it's pretty damn hard to push through the 95 degree heat and the suffocating humidity in an effort to eat more hot dogs than ever before. So there I will stand, frantically dunking my hot dog buns in coffee-hot water, shoveling down bite after bite, in an effort to seek glory. And at the end, I will once again pour an ice-cold cup of water on my head to counteract the hellish heat that will fully envelop me from the inside and out.

That water I so depend on that day will be brought to me courtesy of the pipes of New York - the world's best water if you ask any local. Regardless of where you are on the 4th, you'll likely have the same experience I will. Well, not the hot dog part. But you'll walk right up to any of the several taps around your house, pour it right out, and use it as frequently as your little heart desires.

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury.
Nearly 1 in 10 people on this planet (Or, twice the population of the United States) live without clean water. The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their family. Not only does walking for water keep children out of school or take up time that parents could be using to earn money, but the water often carries diseases that can make everyone sick. These diseases kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.

But we can help. Through this fundraiser, we can help provide more people with access to clean water and basic sanitation, and save lives. We can share the gift of this little thing that we take so for granted, but is so crucial to life.

And the thing I love about Charity:Water is that 100% of the money donated through this campaign will be used to build clean water projects. Plus, when they’re complete, they will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.

Please consider joining me. The goal is to help 35 more people get clean water for life. My alternate goal is to work hard enough to eat a minimum of 35 hot dogs at Coney Island on the fourth of July. For that reason, each time we raise $150, I will film a hot dog practice video - forcing me to bear the discomfort of pushing myself to the limits, knowing that it is all for the greater good.

Thank you for considering being a part of this cause. Stay Hungry.
