Why Cardboard Shell is fundraising for clean water

On August 20, Michelle Lesco, Stephanie Torres, and Matt Stonie will be competing in the Day-Lee Foods World Gyoza Eating Championship in Los Angeles, CA -- a Major League Eating competition that requires us to eat as many of these Asian potstickers as we can in 10 minutes.

Last year's winner ate 189 gyozas. The record is 231. That's a lot of gyozas.

To eat this amount of food so quickly, Major League Eaters rely on three things:
(1) Natural ability to eat and focus
(2) Competitiveness
(3) Water to wash down all that food at record speed

For us, if you take water out of the equation, the record levels of consumption would not be possible.

But for a billion people in the world, water IS out of the equation. Every week, millions of women and their children walk more than 14 miles just to get water for their families. Most of this water is contaminated, and causes life threatening diseases, but it's all they have.

MLE eaters are fully aware of the importance of water in our events, and in our lives. And we want the rest of the world to know about the importance of water in developing countries. With the global water crisis going on, we want to be up there at the Day Lee competition knowing that every gyoza is important. We want every bite to matter.

That's why we're asking for pledges per gyoza you think we can eat, or flat out donations to help achieve our goal. Put the name of your favorite competitor in the comment with your donation. We are super competitive and will hold low numbers against each other. Team Shell, Team Torres, or Team Megatoad -- which are you on?

Let's impact the world. On Aug 20, we're going to eat a crap-ton of gyozas. Let's put that stupid skill to good use.

----------------------------------

Because of charity: water's unique model, 100% of all donations go directly to water projects, and each donation is "proved" when projects are complete. We aim to raise $1000(to help 50 people get clean water for life) by August 30. We hope you'll join us in helping them now.

I pledged 25 cents per gyoza and already donated for my guesstimated goal of 100. But I ate 117, so here's the rest of my donation!
